The birth of a child or the addition of a child into a family, is life changing. It can be the most profound , and frankly one of the most downright craziest of experiences a person can encounter ( 15 month old with hands down the loo anyone?). Not to mention the whole new myriad of responsibility that goes with it.
Many people wish to mark this precious event. To share with those closest to them, the promises they would like to make to their child. A Naming Ceremony is a beautiful, poignant and fun service. It doesn’t have to just be a service to shout your childs name from the rooftops in front of everybody – though we can do that too (!). This service vocalises your hopes and dreams and promises to your little one. It can be for babies, and any older children you may wish to include. This ceremony really is the most beautiful launchpad for your child or children as they begin to make their way into the world.
How does a Naming Ceremony work?
I come to visit you and your family and listen to your ideas and we build together from there.
You can choose to hold the service wherever you wish – at home, in the local park or your child’s favourite wacky warehouse. We can include any literature, poems, songs, music you would like. Similarly, think about themes, creative friends(!), and any special touches that you would like to include. Many people incorporate a child’s 1st Birthday for instance! We draw on all of this and I help you put together a ceremony that encompasses your whole family. I write a draft of the service for you to review. In addition I am contactable over the phone and email to choreograph the event to spec.
You may have a raft of people you would like to be included on the day. That’s great! Similarly , a ceremony is just as wonderful if you prefer small and intimate. I have worked with countless families to ensure that I get the right balance for you.
